Hi-Fi

My Journey to Hi-Fi nirvana

Sansui AU-101 – This was one cracking little Amplifier, my first real piece of HI-Fi.

Garrard SP25 – Made nearly as much noise as the record, the rumble was horrific!

Garrard 86SB – Cheaper than the Zero 100, came as deck only, you had to make or buy your plinth, chose to make my own, 4″ x 1/2″ plank, screws & a pot varnish, can only describe the result as rustic.

Shure V15 – I have had 3 versions of this cartridge, the last one with a stabilising brush, all superb, never came across anything else that sounded as good and tracked as well.

Sony TC-366 Reel to reel tape recorder

Pioneer SA-9500 – I bought this when it was on discount at Comet, I should have left it there and spent my money else where!

Monitor Audio – ET500 Direct drive turntable

SME 3009 SII – This arm is a beautiful piece of precision engineering

Cyrus MKII – plus the external PSU

Denon – CD player, early model, can’t remember the model, sounded like a record player without the rumble and crackle.

Mission – Floor standing speakers

KEF 104AB – Stand mount speakers

KEF Q300 – bookshelf speaker

KEF Q400b – Subwoofer

Marantz PM7200 – Integrated amplifier, bought when the Cyrus died a death.

Audiolab 8200CD – My second but more expensive poor choice of kit, disappointing.

Arcam A19 – Amplifier, certainly better than the Marantz PM7200 and probably better than the Cyrus MKII.

Cambridge Audio azur 752BD – Brillant CD, DVD and Blu-ray player, worth the money just as a CD player.

Cambridge CXR200 – AV Amp excellent piece of kit, worth the asking price, clarity, power, and versatile, well pleased.

PMC Twenty5.21 – Bookshelf speaker, excellent sound.

NAD T778 AV Surround Receiver – A step up from the Cambridge, and half the power consumption.

PMC Twenty5.C – Centre speaker, latest step towards surround sound

PMC Twenty5.23 – Floor standing speakers replacing the Twenty5.21’s.
