NAD T778 AV Receiver

Recently (22/07/21) obtained the NAD T778 AV Surround Receiver to replace the ageing Cambridge Audio CXR200.

NAD T778 with Bluetooth adapter in front USB port

I have only ever used these two AV Receivers in stereo mode (have a centre speaker now, much better for video with surround sound ), the reasons being the greater flexibility in connecting the TV, CATV, Blu-Ray, AppleTV and games box, over a stereo amp. Also no analogue connections required except to the speakers! and most important it is a one box solution.

NAD have produced a very impressive piece of kit both visually and audibly.

The BluOS Controller for streaming music works very well both on the PC and iPad. Patience is required while BluOS indexes your local collection of music.

The BluOS reviews for the iPad or iPhone appear to be Trolled, the top reviews are very negative and several years old, so have no relevance to the current BluOS app which for me, works well. After using BluOS for a number of weeks now, I find that when the internet connection goes down the music stops playing, this is music stored locally on a NAS box, and will resume when the connection is restored, why? discovered a couple of problems, fixed those still no joy.

There is though a few niggles, starting with the learning remote, it will control most of NAD’s hardware and teaching it for other manufactures is tedious, on the software side there is the BluOS and DIRAC live software but everything else seems to be aimed at installers.

The BluOS kit is a bit of a misnomer really, as all it is, is a USB Hub, a USB Wi-Fi Dongle and Bluetooth USB Micro Adapter to give the T778 Wi-Fi and Bluetooth capability. As I have connected the T778 via Ethernet the USB Hub and Wi-Fi dongle are redundant but the Bluetooth adapter I have plugged into the front USB port where it works very well.
