Meccano

Bender/straightener updated and improved using more common and plentiful  parts in the collection.

I remember seeing an example of a roller bearing in a model many years ago, I thought I’d have a go, the spacers are standard Meccano collars and the ball bearings are 3/8″, this has some play but your milage may vary.

I have also used 10mm ball bearings but this needs careful adjustment so that the bearing does not bind.

Here is my version of a Meccano bender/straightener, rollers supplied by Stuart Borrill, these are in silver steel and excellent quality as was Stuarts turnaround time when I placed my order.

A couple of examples of pieces bent and straitened by the above machine.

I have not had any Meccano for over twenty years, and starting up again made me realise how much I missed tinkering. Here is my version of a differential.

This was my first try using the Metallus track set. Thirty two links produces a track that’s about 15.5″ long, inside view.

The track and its sprocket wheels weigh about 3Kg adding in the track frame we are up to 4Kg plus.

Close up of what would have been the driven sprocket.

External view of the track frame, lots of threaded rod in the construction.
